The Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor Marin Alsop bring a varied programme from Brazil, including a brand new work by Clarice Assad, Terra Brasilis, a fantasia on the Brazilian National anthem.

This is followed by Bernstein’s energetic Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, the ‘Titan’.

Mahler’s First Symphony, with its minor-key Frere Jacques slow movement and light pastoral themes, is an autobiography of the composer’s early life and includes cuckoo cries and off-stage fanfares.
